England from stock originating in Newfoundland and having a short dense
black, yellow, or chocolate coat -- called also Lab, Labrador

General Breed Standard

Height:
An adult Labrador male should be 22-1/2 to 24-1/2 inches at the withers. An adult female should be between 21-1/2 to 23-1/2 inches.

Weight:
The approximate weight can vary slightly with dogs (males) weighing about 70 to 85 pounds and a bitch 60 to 75 pounds.

Nose:
The nose on black or yellow Labs should be black, and brown on chocolates.

Coat Color:
Labrador retrievers come in 3 coat colors. They are: black, yellow and chocolate. These; however should not show any mixing of the colors. The black should be black, yellow should be yellow, chocolate should be chocolate. with brindle being unacceptable.

Temperament:
Labrador retrievers have always been regarded as an excellent tempered breed. The ideal Labrador should have a disposition which is kind, outgoing, intelligent and eager to please. They should be non-aggressive towards anything or anyone.
